Self Catering Wedding

Having a Self Catering Wedding seems to be becoming ever more popular, certainly here at Hargate Hall  anyway. Why? For many the self catering route is a way to keep costs to a minimum. However, for others it is an opportunity to have exactly what they want for their wedding. By choosing everything yourself you are in control, rather than having to use our caterer, a house DJ etc. Our aim at Hargate Hall is to help you achieve the wedding you want.

What is meant by self catered?

In the strict sense you or your guests would organise and cook the food for your own meals, and a few brave people have gone done this. For the majority though, they will bring caterers in. Being self catering though, you can choose which caterers you want to use;  choose the menu you want; and choose the timings of the meals to suit you. There are lots of caterers around and they all bring there own ideas as well. Catering can range from the ever popular Hog Roast to a full formal sit down 5 course meal.

You also need to think about staffing. Do you want the caterer to bring staff who will set the tables and clear up afterwards, or will you organise that. Setting and decorating the tables can be great fun and can be a good way of your friends and family meeting and getting to know each other. Many a time groups have gone down to the marquee on a Friday night with a few bottles of wine or beer to put up decorations. Clearing up and washing up isn’t as much fun!

How much you take on depends really on who will be around you to help out. You certainly don’t want to take on too much and end up stressed about your wedding day.

Planning the rest of your time

Hargate Hall is different to many other Wedding Venues as bookings generally are for a full weekend (or Monday to Friday) so there is plenty of time for you to catch up with friends and family whom you may not have seen for a while. It also provides the opportunity to explore the Peak District. This can either be by leaving free time in the schedule or organising a trip out. There is a lot on offer within a few miles of us:- Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Buxton, Bakewell, Castleton etc. We can also help organise some more unusual activities such as a caving trip (there are lots round here!), canoeing, abseiling and others.

So if you are looking for a self catering wedding venue then have a look at our main website and then come and have a look around Hargate Hall. We look forward to meeting you!
