We are holding our first wedding showcase on Sunday 5th October 12 noon till 16:00. Come and have a look around, see the venue dressed for a wedding, and meet the suppliers that have been involved in setting up the day.

What is a wedding showcase?

A wedding showcase is not a wedding fair. A wedding fair has lots of suppliers filling the venue and promoting themselves. Whereas a showcase is more about us as a venue, and how suppliers work with us and our wedding couples to dress the venue, get everything ready for a wedding. Hargate Hall will be decorated to showcase how it can be set up for a typical wedding. The main Hall will be set up for a ceremony, the marquee will be set up for dining, and if we are lucky with the weather, we will also set up for an outdoor ceremony.

How does a it work?

Although it is set up as if you were joining us for a wedding, the suppliers involved will all be here. So you can have a chat with them about what they have done, and what they could do for your wedding. We will, of course, also be on hand show you around the hall and the self catering apartments, as well as to talk to you about holding your wedding at Hargate Hall

A dry Hire Wedding Venue is essentially one in which you hire the venue and can sort almost everything else yourself. This means you are not pushed down the route of Package A or Package B, or fixed drinks packages etc.

Consequently there is potentially more for you to do. You are not just choosing a meal option, you have to choose the caterer. This is the same with drinks. You have decisions to make. What drinks do you want, how much de you buy who is going to pour, tidy up and generally manage things.

So yes it is more work, but the result is that you get a wedding that is unique and exactly what you want.

A dry Hire Venue vs A Blank Canvas

Is there a difference between a dry hire venue and one which describes itself as a blank canvas? I believe there is an element of semantics with this one. My opinion is that a venue that describes itself as a blank canvas is also likely to allow much more freedom when it comes to setup, decorations, themes and timings.

Catering

A dry hire wedding venue should always offer you a choice of caterers. I might be complete free reign to chose what or whom you want. Or you may need to pick from a list of approved suppliers. At Hargate Hall we sit in the middle. We have a list of recommended suppliers, but we are also happy for you to bring your own . This might be one you have found through research, or it might be a team from your favourite restaurant. We don’t mind and we like to see new ideas all the time.

What about Music

Both a Blank canvas Venue and a Dry Hire wedding venue are likely to offer you freedom to have what you want. Whether this is a live band, DJ, or just playing your own Spotify play list (other play lists are available!). It is important to check on what noise restrictions and time limits might be in place though.

Is A Dry Hire Wedding Venue for me?

As has already been touched on, booking a Dry Hire Wedding Venue for you wedding has its pros and cons. So it all depends on how much time and effort you have to put in to it. In the simplest terms it it time vs money. If you are organising a particular aspect of your wedding, you don’t have to pay someone else to do it. However you have to know that you are going to be able get these things done.

You will also find that a small number of places, like Hargate Hall, offer a small number of wedding packages and recommended suppliers that can sit alongside the dry hire philosophy. This gives you the option of reducing your work load in some key areas.

Should I book a Dry Hire Wedding Venue

Absolutely! Especially if you want a wedding that is unlike any others that you have been to. If you do things your way, you can be fairly certain that it will be unique. Also as a final thought. You don’t actually have to do all the work and planning yourselves. Friends and family are often very eager to help. Just make sure that any helpers are very clear as to what you want, and how you want things done.
